In January 2025, Barney Hester began his first term on the Bibb County Board of Education, representing District 4.  He serves as Vice Chair of the Policies and Rules Committee.

A longtime member of the Macon community, Mr. Hester graduated from Georgia Southern University with a Bachelor’s degree and Georgia College & State University with a Master’s degree in Leadership.

Mr. Hester, a member of the Macon Sports Hall of Fame, has coached high school football for more than 40 years, including three decades at Tattnall Square Academy, where he won 11 state championships. He also coached for five years at Howard High School, including the program’s first state playoff berth in 2017, before serving as the District’s Athletic Director for five years.

“I would like to make a difference in the lives of the children that attend the Bibb County School District,” Hester said.

In addition to his years of service as an educator, Mr. Hester and his wife own Northside Prep, a childcare center in Bibb County.
