Ms. Myrtice C. Johnson is serving her second term on the Bibb County Board of Education representing District 1 and is currently Vice Chair of the Instructional Services Committee. Ms. Johnson served as President of the Board during the 2025 fiscal year.
A graduate of Sumter High School in Americus, Georgia, she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Albany State University. She earned Master's degrees in Middle Grades Education from Mercer University and in Administration and Supervision from the University of Georgia before completing her Specialist degree in Educational Leadership from Georgia State University.
After completing 31 years of service in the Bibb County School District, 14 years as a Classroom Teacher and 17 years as an Elementary School Principal, Ms. Johnson retired from the Bibb County School District in 2001. She is a three-time Past-President of the Bibb Retired Educators Association (BREA) and was elected in 2017 to serve as State President for Georgia Retired Educators Association (GREA) and President of the Georgia Retired Educators Museum in 2018.
“I want to make a positive difference in the educational lives of the children in this school district, as well as make a positive difference in the community in which I live,” she said.
In 2023, Ms. Johnson served as Vice President of the Bibb County Board of Education. She has also served as Chair of the Instructional Services Committee.
Ms. Johnson is a 30-year member of Macedonia Baptist Church, where she serves as the Servant-Leader of Christian Education and is an Adult Bible School teacher. Other past leadership roles include: GREA Area 8 Director; President, Bibb Elementary Principals Association (BEPA); Committee Chairperson, Southern Association of Accreditation of Colleges and Schools (SACS); Adjunct Professor, Fort Valley State University; Financial Literacy Trainer, Your Money Counts Inc.; two-time President, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc.; President, Chestley Estates Community Association; and Financial Secretary, Jack and Jill of America Inc.
