- MODIFIED MEETING PROCEDURES DURING COVID-19 PANDEMIC -
In light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, in the interests of protecting public health and safety, we have made modifications to board meeting protocols.
While the Board of Education has returned to in-person meetings, and the district boardroom will be open to the public within limits of public health guidelines, we strongly urge members of the public, in the interest of public health and safety, to consider board meeting participation remotely. You can access the regular board meeting live from the convenience of your household through this link. This is not to limit public participation, but rather to protect public health.
At Board meetings, if members of the public would like to comment on agenda or non-agenda item(s) within the subject matter jurisdiction of the Board, you may do so in-person at the time of the meeting.
In accordance with Bylaws of the Board #9323 (6/25/19) time is reserved for oral communication by members of the Board of Education or by citizens. Citizens wishing to be heard on agenda items (regular or special meetings), and/or non-agenda items within the subject matter jurisdiction of the Board (regular meetings only), shall have a three-minute limit. A total of 20 minutes will be reserved for public comment on each item, and for non-agenda items. The Board President, with the concurrence of the Board, may extend this time if deemed appropriate due to the number of citizens who wish to speak on an item. In accordance with the law, the Board cannot take action on any matter not appearing on the agenda, as indicated in Bylaws of the Board #9232.2 (6/25/19).
You may also choose to submit a written public comment. If so, please provide your written comments by 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at this link. These comments will be shared with all board members prior to the board meeting. If you wish for your written comment to be read aloud, please indicate this specifically in your communication. Requests for written comments to be read aloud are subject to the Board’s usual time and content limits on public comment (BB 9323).
The Board reserves the right to return to teleconferenced meetings pursuant to AB 361 or other provisions of law if health and safety conditions warrant. Public participation and access will be ensured as required by law.
In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, if you need special assistance to access or participate in a Board of Education meeting, please contact the Superintendent's Office at (760) 771-8503 or blanche.ramirez@desertsands.us. Requests should be made as soon as possible, and no later than 24 hours before the start of the meeting, to enable the District to make reasonable arrangements to provide accessibility. Please be advised American Sign Language translation for this Board Meeting is available at this link. Para su conocimiento la traducción al español para la junta de la Mesa Directiva está disponible en el siguiente enlace.
