The Superintendent recommends approval of a Waiver to Board Policy FDC - Naming Facilities to allow the Committee to pursue possible naming rights opportunities or other such names as the Committee may believe to be appropriate for this venue. Final approval of a name will remain with the Board.

The Cultural Arts Committee met on Tuesday, September 6 to discuss the development of a lease agreement for use of the facility and to consider exactly how to go about naming the facility.

With respect to the lease agreement, the committee will determine how other similar facilities have developed such documents and will consult with the School Board and Board of Commissioners legal counsel for assistance in drafting a document so that each Board may then review and comment.

In terms of naming, the Committee has asked the Superintendent to recommend that the traditional school naming policy, as defined by the Barrow County Board of Education under Policy FDC - Naming Facilities, be waived in this instance so that the Committee can pursue possible naming rights opportunities or other such names as the committee may believe to be appropriate for this venue.  Any recommendations for naming of the facility developed by the Committee will of course be brought to the Board of Education for further consideration and approval.
