Recommendation
Respectfully submitted for approval of the 2017-2018 BCSS Student Code of Conduct.

Summary
As per state board rule and Barrow County policy the School Governance Team at each school reviewed our current code of conduct during the month of January, 2017. This afforded them the opportunity to make suggestions about possible changes or clarifications to the code. All schools reviewed the code but no SGT's proposed changes. Barrow County School administrators also had input and opportunity for review and feedback.

Several changes were made to the Code of Conduct this year. First, sections on Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) and overall student support services were added. These changes were intended to better communicate the degree to which PBIS and student support fit into the Barrow County disciplinary philosophy and were recommended by an external Department of Education School Climate review team. Second, in order to make the process of classifying disciplinary infractions easier and more consistent, the disciplinary codes and definitions used by the Georgia Department of Education were adopted and reframed onto the pre-existing Barrow County progressive disciplinary framework. Prior to this change it was necessary for an administrator to first classify the infraction on the BCSS definitions and codes and then translate that onto the mandatory Georgia definitions. By aligning our codes and definitions with the state of Georgia definitions we can better avoid inconsistency.
