ITEM : E.12. Donation of property at Hwy 53 for system agriculture programs - Joe PernoAttachment Icon

Recommendation
The Superintendent recommended the BOE authorize a letter of support for receipt of the land donated by the Southeastern Trust for Parks and Land.

Summary

In response to a request from the Barrow County School System FFA program, the Southeastern Trust for Parks and Land (STPAL) has agreed to consider the donation of two parcels of land along Highway 53 to the Barrow County Board of Education.  The STPAL has made similar donations in the past to other county government entities.

The School System FFA program is currently developing a plan of general use for the property as requested by the STPAL for their review.  New schools cannot be constructed on this property.

If the Board of Education supports receipt of this land, a letter stating this should be sent to the STPAL which would in turn would allow them to consider further and more formal steps in the donation process.  One such step might include the creation of a gift of deed document or something similar for the Board of Education to consider as an action item at a future Board meeting.

Financial Impact

A title examination for these properties at a cost not to exceed $1,200.

Title Insurance $2,800

Warranty Deed prep and filing  $200

Rationale
The Barrow County School System FFA program desires a large space to increase its offerings to students.  The donation of over 90 acres (84.74 acres in one parcel and 7.06 in the other) along Highway 53 will certainly help in this effort.
