Recommendation
The Superintendent recommended the purchase of instructional materials to improve reading and writing achievement at Bethlehem Elementary School in the amount of $27,000 from Heinemann. 

Summary

Heinemann is the sole provider of curriculum materials authored by Lucy Calkins and produced by the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project at Columbia University. Their resources will be used in the classroom to support reading and writing instruction.

 


Details

The purchase of these instructional materials will equip teachers at Bethlehem Elementary School with the resources needed to achieve the following school improvement goals:

  1. By year 2020, all students will read at or above grade level as measured by the End of Grade Georgia Milestones Assessment.
  2. The percentage of students in grades K-5 scoring in the proficient range in the Narrative, Informational, and Opinion genres will increase from the 16-17 school year data . Each grade level has determined scores for proficiency based on BCSS rubric.

Funding Source
Title I funds will be utilized for this purchase.
