2015 GSBA Recognition - Floyd County Schools

The Floyd County Board of Education has earned the 2015 Exemplary School Board recognition from the Georgia School Boards Association (GSBA).  Exemplary status is the highest designation for a local board of education awarded by GSBA. School boards earning the ‘Exemplary’ designation meet all requirements of state Board of Education training, and have adopted and are implementing a system strategic plan and meeting the highest standards for boards of education in Georgia.  Exemplary is the third and highest level in the GSBA recognition program.  Board members are: George Bevels, chairman; Dr. David Cox, vice-chairman; Dr. Tony Daniel; Chip Hood and Jay Shell.

The Floyd County Board of Education has historically held the highest professional distinction offered by GSBA.  The board was recognized as a Board of Distinction in 2003, the highest designation for a Georgia board in the previous recognition program offered by GSBA.
In the new three tiered GSBA program, the board has previously been recognized as a Quality Board and a Distinguished Board.  This is the first year local boards could qualify as an Exemplary Board.

The GSBA recognition program was designed to showcase best practices in school governance and leadership.  GSBA recognizes good school board governance to foster educational community cultures in order to advance student learning and achievement.

The Floyd County Board of Education met or exceeded the criteria set forth by GSBA to earn this honor of a 2015 Exemplary Board. The criteria may be viewed on the GSBA website.

The GSBA Governance Team Recognition Program was developed by Georgia superintendents and board members based on the state board of education’s standards for effective governance to recognize exemplary leadership.

In 1998, the Georgia School Boards Association was one of the first school board associations in the nation to develop a program of standards for local boards of education.
