The Affton School District will provide tuition reimbursement in accordance with district policies and procedures as part of its commitment to enhancing student achievement through professional development.

One-third of the district’s annual tuition reimbursement budget is allocated for each of the three college semesters (fall, spring, summer). For tuition payment purposes, the fiscal year begins with the summer session using the University of Missouri-St. Louis’s (UMSL) summer session dates.

Tuition reimbursement will not be provided to employees to meet the requirements of positions for which they were originally hired. If after employment the superintendent assigns an employee to a position for which additional training or credits are needed, such employee will be eligible for tuition reimbursement up to the limits set forth in this policy and related procedures.

If an employee chooses to retire or resign from the district after benefitting from the tuition reimbursement program, the teacher will be obligated to repay in full the tuition reimbursement received for the preceding three tuition reimbursement sessions. An employee may request Board review of extraordinary circumstances (severe illness, impacting contractual obligations, relocation of a spouse or other extraordinary circumstances) under which, at the discretion of the Board, this requirement may be waived.
