Middle School Receives National Distinction for Academic Performance

fiogf49gjkf0d
Fayette Middle can now add a national recognition to its arsenal of academic honors as having been named a 2011 National Title I Distinguished School.

The school received the award for having exceptional student performance overall by exceeding its Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) every year since the assessment was implemented under the No Child Left Behind Act.

Since 1996, the National Title I Distinguished School Program, a project of the National Title I Association, has honored schools across the country for their innovation in helping students achieve high educational standards.

Fayette Middle’s principal Sharlene Patterson says that Title I funds have given the school’s students and teachers resources for teaching and learning that they would not have had otherwise. However, just as important as having access to resources is the way in which they are utilized. Patterson credits the creativity and innovation of her staff for successfully utilizing programs to meet student needs.

“I am extremely proud of the hard work and dedication of our faculty and staff.  They prove each and every day that they are committed to the success of our students,” says Patterson. “In addition, our parents and community have embraced our school's vision and have been a very important part of our efforts to increase student achievement. We are proud of what we do here at Fayette Middle School.”

Fayette Middle will be recognized at the National Title I Conference in Seattle, Washington January 21-24.

In addition to being named a National Title I Distinguished School, Fayette Middle has been recognized as a Georgia School of Excellence twice, first in 1988 (known then as Fayette Junior High) and again in 2003.
