Terminations: Necessary documentation

Q. What kind of documentation do you need to terminate a tenured teacher? What’s the process?

A. The kind of documentation you need is the same that you needed under the Teacher Tenure Act. It must be sufficient to justify the action to the board, the hearing officer and the appellate courts. The process is that the superintendent notifies the teacher of the reasons, the board holds a full hearing and votes and the teacher has the right to appeal to a hearing office.
